Rain & snow to north
Scattered showers

Tuesday
Some heavy bursts of rain across northern England and southern Scotland this morning, this falling as sleet and snow on the hills. Further outrebals of rain in eastern Scotland too, although the north and west should be drier. Generally drier across the rest of England, Wales and most of Ireland, although some rain may affect Northern ireland. Light winds to the south and rather misty for some at first, windier in northern Scotland. The afternoon sees the heavier rain into central, northern and eastern Scotland, again this falling as sleet and snow on the hills and perhaps even at low levels in the far north. A few showers into southern Scotland and Ireland. Mostly dry for England as Wales apart from an occasional shower on southern and western coasts and hills. Temperatures at 2C in northern Scotland, 5 to 8C for much of England and Wales, but 11C in the southeast.

Tuesday Night
More snow to come in central and northern Scotland tonight, most on the hills but some at low levels too combined with a strong east wind. Rain affects western Scotland, although turning drier in southern, eastern and central areas. Some showers affecting western coasts and hills of England and Wales as well as southwest Ireland. Most parts of the country should be dry with some clear spells. Icy by the morning in these areas with lows of 0 to 3C.

Wednesday
Low pressure dominates the weather over the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. Weak fronts surrounding the low bring periods of rain. Most of this affecting western Scotland and southern Ireland and tending to be showery. Some showers, possibly heavy and prolonged developing in central, eastern and southern England with lighter showers over western areas of England and Wales. Highs at 3C in northern Scotland, 9C in southern England.

Thursday
Low pressure is again in control on Thursday, being centred off western Scotland. There is much uncertainty in the detail of the weather for Thursday, but for now we expect a period of rain through England and Wales and for all but the southeast to be cooler. This may be heavy and thundery before clearing eastwards. Showers for northern England and western Scotland as well as Ireland. The showers heavy and turning to snow over the western Highlands. Highs at 4 to 7C for most, 10C in the far southeast.
