Winds easing

Good morning,

A cold northwesterly breeze influences the British Isles again today, although the wind will tend to drop. Low pressure is centred over Scandinavia, whilst a brief ridge of high pressure builds from the west across Britain.

Dry and bright for most places, best in central, east and southern Britain with plenty of crisp winter sunshine. Widely frosty, with some icy patches following showers. Any lying snow will thaw only slowly. The hills will remain widely frozen.

There will be local bands of wintry showers, focused around Irish Sea coasts, running inland into north Wales and the north-west Midlands. Showers also affect northern parts of Scotland and Ireland, resulting in locally frequent snow.

Today's top temperatures will only reach 3 or 4C, and some northern areas will stay at zero or below.

Have a great day.
