Brighter west

Cold and windy with wintry showers in the east

Good morning,

A cold day ahead for all areas of the UK and Ireland. There will be showers continuing to affect eastern parts of Scotland and England with snow over hills, but some at lower levels too. Further showers affecting the southwest of Wales, Cornwall and the north and west of Ireland. Feeling especially cold in the fresh to strong northerly wind.

Elsewhere it will be a frosty start with good spells of sunshine. Staying sunny and cold into the afternoon across most of southern England, eastern Wales, the western Midlands, northwest England and western Scotland as well as central Ireland.

Tonight sees further showers over eastern England, some falling as snow especially on the hills. Fair in more western areas with clearer skies and a touch of frost.
